After perusing Vivaldi for a couple days, I’ve decided that I like it well enough to make a go of it. I’m going to start migrating some of my portfolio images to new galleries on my Vivaldi page, and also start adding other content in the form of blog posts and links. The process will be slow, as I’m only going to upload my best images to the new galleries, which means more editing. My Facebook presence has become bloated with superfluous images; I think this will be a good chance to make a more streamlined online presence, more suitable for presenting to clients.
I really like the clean layout and smooth functionality of Vivaldi, and it still has that “new community smell” that I found so attractive about a former favorite site, uber (a truly great site that died an early death). The look isn’t the same, but the feel of the community is, much like what deviantART was before the kids took over.
I feel that one of the most interesting things about Vivaldi is that its international user base mingles much more than on Facebook, where users only tend to run into other users of their own nationality. In order to get an international flavor on Facebook, one actually has to try to do so. Not so on Vivaldi. This having been said, one feature I would really like to see implemented on Vivaldi is in-line translation, like Facebook has recently done. It isn’t perfect, but at least it gives the reader some idea of what is being said.
